The Paynesville Classic Boat Rally 2018

The Paynesville Classic Boat Rally is a unique celebration of our rich boating history and lifestyle on the Gippsland Lakes.

This community-run event brings together boats and boating enthusiasts from the Gippsland Lakes and around Australia for a unique exhibition of our colourful maritime heritage, featuring all kinds of watercraft.  We will have a wonderful collection of classic wooden motor cruisers, ketches, yawls, sloops, couta boats, H28's, fishing boats, trawlers, dinghy's and speedboats to name just a few.

The highlight of the 2018 event is bringing the tall ship Lady Nelson from Hobart to visit for a weeklong stay. Not since the early 1980’s has a ship of this size visited the Gippsland Lakes.

The Rally will showcase the best of our locally owned and built classic boats, along with the rich diversity of boats that are attracted to Victoria’s boating capital, at the heart of the Gippsland Lakes.

The Rally will include an on-water “sail-past”, classic boats will be moored on display along McMillan Strait and the foreshore. There will be novelty boating events, a classic sail of parade, the tin shed, speedboats, model boats and static boat displays. The Expo is an opportunity for traders and community groups to have a marquee for providing food, entertainment, information displays and workshops.

Friday night sees the Rally launch at the yacht club with our local member of Parliament Hon. Mr Tim Bull opening the Rally and speaking of the family history of the Bulls boat industry. Saturday night we have a maritime dance at the yacht club for all to enjoy.

Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to holiday on the largest lakes system in the southern hemisphere covering over 600 square kilometres of scenic waterways. Offering diverse bird and marine life, coastal parks, the largest silt jetties in the world on the Mitchell River, three major lakes fed by rivers from the High Country and a plethora of camping and walking trails that can be visited by boat or by car. Local villages with quality accommodation and food make a great base for boating, swimming, camping, and fishing. Of local and regional significance the region offers the interstate and international tourist a unique and unforgettable Australian holiday experience.

The Paynesville Classic Boat Rally will provide a wonderful opportunity for boating enthusiasts and the public to share and enjoy the history, craftsmanship and sheer pleasure of classic boats, all in one beautiful lakeside location, the first weekend in March, 2018.

Our vision for this Rally is to have as many classic boats as we can find all gathered here in Paynesville for a celebration of our boating heritage that will grow year after year.
